Banff, Alberta — Aquarelle sur papier
A study of the pond’s reflective surface, capturing floating colours and surrounding vegetation through spontaneous mark-making to capture some key shaddows on the water’s surface as felt around the longs that were sticking out of the surface.

This original plein-air watercolour belongs to my 2024 Banff series — intimate field notes painted outdoors to capture the shapes of the mountains, the way light touched the land, and the proportions between rock, water, and sky. Each study helps me remember not only the atmosphere of the hike, but also the “where and how” of the landscape, should I choose to translate it later into a larger studio painting.

Painted in an expressive style with bold lines, gestural mark-making, and a vivid colour palette, this piece also carries subtle drip textures from the plein-air process. It is part of the collection currently exhibited at Alliance Française Edmonton until February 3. The framed photos in the listing show the exact frame style (each work includes a mat and matching frame).

Available for purchase here or at the exhibit. Artworks can be picked up after the exhibition ends.
